It's part 1 of a 2-part series, but it's very fast-paced: they travel quite quickly through the worlds and then go on to the next world. When there were backgrounds, the buildings and other things were drawn realistically and looked good. Everything (except boobs on certain characters) is drawn in the right proportions as well, so that makes the art nice to look at. The drawings are pretty and often cute as well (cute dinosaurs!). The story was mostly told through the text, instead of through both. The text/art balance wasn't very good, as the text often changes font size as well (lots of times within the same page too!). Sometimes, the text balloons are also too close to the inside spine, so you can't read everything. On some pages there's a lot of text, on other pages there isn't that much text. It is rated 16+ for boob drawings, but the focus of the story was on the world-travelling, which is why I still liked it. Except for the Gundam-world (about which I found a Bookcrossing manga last year), I didn't recognize any of the series the worlds were based on, but they were enjoyable to read about (for example, Edo Japan, a jungle with dinosaurs, a high school, or a space ship). When her grandfather, protesting the redevelopment, breaks the guardian statue protecting the shopping center, Sasshi and Arumi are sent to other Abenobashi-worlds based on the anime series Sasshi likes. As a result, Arumi (whose family works in Abenobashi) will soon be moving to Hokkaido (the Northernmost island of Japan. Sasshi's anime merchandise collection was still at their store, but it was demolished when he was away and not everything was taken out.Īpparently this comic is based on an animated series, which I haven't seen, but it's possible to read and understand this without any prior knowledge.Īrumi (the girl) and Sasshi (the boy) live in Abenobashi (a part of Osaka) and the shopping arcade where they live, is going to be demolished. All we really need is a fit body and some fresh air." It doesn't matter what they say humans WANT. Sasshi: "Not here! Not here! Not here! Not here! Not there! Ain't here?!! Where is it?! What happened to my collection?!!"Īrumi: "Come on, Sasshi! You can dig all the way through, it still ain't gonna be there! It's not that big a deal. Sasshi and Arumi are looking through the ruins of a demolished store. However, when his section of the city is leveled, a portal to parallel universes is cracked wide open, hurling Sasshi and Arumi into strange worlds reminiscent of your favorite manga and anime! His best gal pal, Arumi, is about to move away, and adding insult to injury, his neighborhood is being demolished in the name of urban renewal. Sasshi and Arumi travel through many parallel worlds based on the anime series Sasshi likes, trying to get back to their original world. Recommended: Yes, if it sounds interesting to you. Reason for reading: I found it at a bookshelf full of Bookcrossing-books and it sounded interesting. Year published: original Japanese 2002, original English 2004, my edition 2004 Series: Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade, volume 1 of 2.įormat of publication: paperback, right-to-left Title: Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade #1 (on Librarything)Īuthor: GAINAX (text by Satoru Akahori あかほりさとる, art by Ryusei Deguchi 出口竜正) (I took care to give no obvious spoilers about the story) Talk to him, and eventually you can ask where you can find a power regulator. You’ll come across a graveyard leading into town, and a gravedigger named Silas. Make your way there (big tower in the distance, can’t miss it), taking down or avoiding the marauders along the path. Stranger in a Strange Land will now direct you towards Edgewater. No matter what you pick you won’t get fined. You can argue your lack of a job, remind her you healed Pelham, pass a 5 Lie skill check, or out-right attack her. She wants to fine you for the illegal landing, but you have some options. Lieutenant Mercer will have some choice words for you once you leave “your” ship. Time to find a power regulator in Edgewater. ADA will print you a captain’s identification and the ship will officially become yours. If you have 5 Engineering you can get some xp, but will still need to head to town to get the part. You could go up the ladders to the kitchen for some foodstuffs, and after that you’ll want to head to the waypoint and talk to ADA.Įventually ADA will allow you to take the late Hawthorne’s ship for yourself, and she’ll task you with finding a power regulator to the main drive. The shotgun will need to be repaired if you plan to use it. There is a workbench on the left-hand wall, with a sawed-off shotgun and weapon parts next to it. Once inside the game will ask you to go right and talk to ADA, but go ahead and go left first. You could talk to Mercer, but she doesn’t have anything much to say, so just head on in. Do bear in mind that if she or her partner kills the enemies before you can get a hit on them you won’t get any xp for those kills.Īfter the marauders have been dispatched the game will task you with entering the ship. After some dialogue you’ll be given a couple choices: you can make a level 5 Persuade, Lie, or Intimidate check to convince Mercer to assist you with the marauders near the ship (and for 15 xp), or handle it yourself (by choosing either a more polite or rude response). At the bottom you will see spaceship and two other Spacer’s Choice guards. Work your way down the hill, dispatching the marauders along the way as you see fit. More new friends, and an illegally landed ship. Grab these before shooting the explosive canisters blocking your exit. Whether you decide to kill him or not, there are two mag-picks near him, some gourmet saltuna fillets, tartarus sauce, pre-sliced bread, and a fast ration pill. If you choose to kill him you’ll get 200xp and a riot control helmet, and it’ll change some dialog choices with an NPC down the hill. You’ll get 15 exp regardless of choice as well as his gun and the sabre if you healed him. These are all level 1 skill checks, so choose the one that fits your fancy. Otherwise, talk to him as you are inclined and you’ll come to a prompt to either persuade, lie, or intimidate him into giving him your gun. You can heal the Spacer’s Choice guard for 15 exp and a sabre awarded at the end of your discussion with him. Jump down and introduce yourself to Guard Pelham. Continue onward, and after a brief slowing of time you’ll come across a hole in the floor. Immediately after crawling through some tall grass you’ll come across a cave. When you stumble upon a dead, legless marauder thug near a campfire loot their corpse for an Adreno. You’ll be tasked with exciting new actions, like “move” and “crouch.” This section of the mission is linear just keep pressing ahead. Head down the hill away from your escape pod and follow the onscreen prompts. Yeah, Stranger in a Strange Land starts as one of those missions. Make your way down the hill, completing tutorial prompts. If you live outside the Netherlands, there may be other matters to arrange for your child. Mtext("Bottom-left text", side = 1, adj = 0) plot(x, y, main = "Main title", cex = 2, col = "blue") In the following code block some examples are shown for both functions. On the other, the text function allows you to add text or formulas inside the plot at some position setting the coordinates. You just need to change the side and adj to obtain the combination you need. There are 12 combinations (3 on each side of the box, as left, center and right align). On the one hand, the mtext function in R allows you to add text to all sides of the plot box. Note that the dev.cur function counts the number of current available graphics devices. While (dev.cur() > 1) dev.off() # Equivalent You can also clear the plot window in R programmatically with dev.off function, to clear the current window and with graphics.off, to clear all the plots and restore the default graphic parameters. Note that in RStudio you can navigate through all the plots you created in your session in the plots pane. In addition to being able to open and set the size of the window, this functions are used to avoid overriding the plots you create, as when creating a new plot you will lose the previous. It should be noted that in RStudio the graph will be displayed in the pane layout but if you use the corresponding function, the graph will open in a new window, just like in R base. For that purpose, you can use of the height and width arguments of the following functions, depending on your system. However, you may need to customize the height and width of the window, that defaults to 7 inches (17.78 cm). When creating plots in R base they will be opened in a new window. Plot(fun, 0, 10, main = "Plot a function") Plot(my_dates, rnorm(50), main = "Time based plot") Plot(my_factor, rnorm(32), main = "Boxplot") When you control the graph yourself, as when you use PROC SGPLOT, you have complete control over specifying Unicode characters. If you execute the following code you will obtain the different plot examples. You can use Unicode to display special characters in SAS output including tables and graphs. In consultation with the registrars and academic deans at both schools, students develop a study plan for meeting all requirements. Within these schools, they are encouraged to take courses in environmental ethics and religion and ecology. Students work concurrently on either a Master of Environmental Management or Master of Environmental Science at YSE and either a Master of Divinity or a Master of Arts in Religion at YDS. It is aimed at students who wish to integrate the study of environmental issues and religious communities in their professional careers and at students who wish to study the cultural and ethical dimensions of environmental problems. Religion and Ecology The Yale School of the Environment (YSE) and Yale Divinity School offer a joint master’s degree program in Religion and Ecology. The normal pattern for joint-degree candidates in programs totaling three years of study is to spend the entire first year almost exclusively in one school and the entire second year almost exclusively in the other, combining courses from both schools and completing requirements for both degrees during the third year. Students generally alternate terms or years in each school. Students interested in pursuing any of these programs can obtain further information from the associate dean of academic affairs. Joint-Degree Programs within YaleĬurrently, YDS has agreements for joint-degree programs with the Yale schools of the Environment, Law, Management, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. Students interested in enrolling in a joint-degree program should notify the registrar and consult the associate dean of academic affairs for further information.

There’s a lot of value in having working CCTV cameras at a hackerspace – not only does a functioning system solve the “who made the mess that nobody admits to” problem, over the years it also helped us with things like locating safety interlock keys to a lasercutter that were removed during a reorganization, with their temporary location promptly forgotten.īeing able to use MotionEye to quickly create security cameras became quite handy very soon – when I needed it, I could make a simple camera to monitor my bicycle, verify that my neighbours didn’t forget to feed my pets as promised while I was away, and in a certain situation, I could even ensure mine and others’ physical safety with its help. At that point, I was in a position to do something about it, and I built an entire CCTV network around a software package called MotionEye. That said, it wouldn’t be impossible, now, would it?įive years later, I joined a hackerspace, and eventually found out that its CCTV cameras, while being quite visually prominent, stopped functioning a long time ago. Cool software like Motion was available back then, but I wasn’t up to the task of rolling an entire system around it. I stumbled upon Zoneminder, and those in the know, already can tell what happened – I’ll put it this way, I spent days trying to make it work, and my Linux skills at the time were not nearly enough. One of the projects was a DIY CCTV system based on a Linux box – specifically, a user-friendly all-in-one package for someone willing to pay for it. A decade ago, I was learning Linux through building projects for my own needs. Just about anyone can drop into this application and start working without much of a learning curve.
